Proud to be an American

The Brother needs to get right at it at this one. I am increasingly frustrated with this general sense of apologetic behavior for being Americans. It's almost as if some people are ashamed at being Americans. There are people in our country who are walking around stoop-shouldered and slack-jawed who would like nothing more than to see this great land reduced to a has been Superpower.

These are the same people who like to see us remain dependent upon foreign oil, walking to work everyday so we don't hog up the world's resources, sleep in huts and suffer a dramatically reduced quality of life all in the name of being good global citizens. Why should we have supermarkets full of food when so many people go hungry? Shouldn't we suffer a little bit more just to even things up a bit? Hey, the rest of the world has screwed up healthcare, shouldn't we work a little harder to screw ours up? They desperately want to reduce our standing in the world and are obviously not proud to be Americans. They'd like something more Politically Correct. It's mind-boggling. So many hard working Americans shed blood, sweat and tears so that we can enjoy the quality of life that we do today. We enjoy it because of faith in God, the capitalist system and hard work. We didn't sit around and wait for someone to drop a government program in our laps.

I know this for a fact, I served in this nation's military for 10 years to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America, not the socialist states of America. Friends, this is the land of the free and the home of the brave and I will not stand idly by and allow my nation to be reduced to some liberal, socialist utopia. This is our country and too many good people died defending it. I served fully willing to sacrifice my life if need be and would do it again today. The blood of our forefathers has blessed this land so that we can enjoy the best standard of living in the history of mankind.

We need not be ashamed of having and expecting the best. That's what makes us great. Like Ronald Reagan said, the "city shining on a hill" for other nations to look up to. That's how we help others, by lifting them up to our level not going down to their level. So called Progressives should recognize this. "The best way to help the poor is not to become one of them.." How are we going to help poorer nations by becoming broke ourselves?

During my military service I served for one year in South Korea and two years in West Germany during the Cold War. You want to know what an American is to the "Average Joe" in other countries? ROCK STARS!! That's right, they look upon us in awe. They know we live in the best country on earth and they want to also. When refugees streamed across the border after The Wall came down they couldn't contain their excitement at seeing AMERICANS...that's right AMERICANS. They were thrilled to see us, not some broke has been slouched over looking ashamed to be from the US.

American Pride is our responsibility in the world today. The world needs us and our system and values more than ever before. Stand strong. Stick your chest out. Don't ever let anyone put your country down. If they don't like it, they can go somewhere else and mess things up there. Here...this is America. The Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave. It's my land and your land.

I'm proud to be an American and I thank God I was born here.

"Love your neighbor as yourself and your country more than yourself."

Thomas Jefferson
